Georges St-Pierre To Make Long-Awaited Comeback Vs. Michael Bisping

UFC president Dana White has announced Georges St-Pierre will mark his return to the octagon by challenging Michael Bisping for the middleweight title later this year.

St-Pierre stepped away from the sport in November of 2013 after making the ninth consecutive defense of his UFC welterweight championship.

Bisping won the middleweight title last June by beating Luke Rockhold. Although an official date and venue have yet to be announced, the UFC is hoping to have the fight take place in the latter half of 2017.

Britain's first UFC champion Bisping will put his middleweight title on the line against former welterweight ruler St-Pierre, although no date or location has been set.

I for one think St-Pierre vs. Bisping will be a fun fight with a great backstory.

"He wanted to take some time off from the sport and he's been talking about coming back for a couple of years", White added. He even verbally agreed to fight St-Pierre at UFC 206 on December 10 in Toronto, but the Canadian star was unable to come to a financial deal with the UFC to make it happen. "He has to go through USADA - he has to be tested by USADA for the next three months".

"We haven't set a date yet, but that's the fight", White said during an appearance on ESPN's SportsCenter.

Last month, White mentioned St-Pierre had broached the possibility of moving down to 155 pounds. "I'm glad we got together", White said in a text message last fall to Postmedia News.

"The only reason I'm saying Georges St-Pierre is because I know he wants to fight me, and I was offered a fight with him".

St-Pierre admitted last year that he was anxious he would regret, years down the line, not coming back, especially because he felt "right now that I'm at my best ..."
