Dodge County contractor vying to build border wall with Mexico

Mar 03, 2017, 00:37

One of Trump's major campaign pledges was to have a wall built on the border between the U.S. and Mexico, and he repeatedly insisted Mexico would pay for the wall - despite Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto stating this would not happen.

The president told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday that construction will start "very soon" and is "way, way, way ahead of schedule".

Trump repeated on Tuesday a vow that he would soon start building a barrier along the almost 2,000-mile (3,200 km) U.S. -Mexico border to prevent illegal immigrants and drugs crossing north. "An option for additional miles may be included in each contract award". But Mexico's largest cement company says it would consider providing the materials.

For every Mexican peso provided by migrant workers, Mexico's federal, state and municipal governments contribute an additional peso in what's known as the "3×1" program. Of course such a price increase would reduce demand in the USA for Mexican goods, which in turn would probably increase unemployment and poverty in Mexico, which in turn could be seized upon by radicals bent on overthrowing the Mexican government.

"They will reimburse us for the cost of the wall".

A number of small businesses have also applied, including 20 owned by Hispanic-Americans who could come under scrutiny for helping to build the controversial wall that critics say represents Trump's hostility toward the immigrant community. But since the existing funds are insufficient to even build the wall's infrastructure, Congress would need to approve and allocate funding for things to move forward.
