Drone strikes kill 4 Qaeda suspects in Yemen

Some of the valuable intelligence gleaned in the Navy SEAL raid in Yemen on January 28 included hundreds of contacts for al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in the region and the West, a US official told ABC News today.

The Pentagon said the strikes were done in partnership with Yemen's government.

United States fighter jets have carried out dozens of air raids on suspected al-Qaeda positions in southern Yemen for a second consecutive day, according to multiple sources.

Davis said the strikes were conducted in coordination with Hadi's government. USA officials also found information regarding training camps used by the groups, explosive-manufacturing techniques, and possible targets being considered by the terrorist group. Those forces, however, did not conduct any raids, USA officials said.

The strikes are the first to target the terror group since a deadly January raid that left Chief Petty Officer Ryan Owens dead.

"We have not announced all strikes in Yemen", the official said. Six American soldiers were wounded and a military aircraft had to be destroyed after a hard landing.

On Thursday, the Pentagon said it had carried out more than 20 strikes in Shabwa, Abyan and Baida provinces.

The AQAP and Islamic State-linked terrorists took advantage of the security vacuum and ongoing civil war to expand their influence and seize more territories in southern Yemen. They did not specify which U.S. forces were involved but said the assault dealt a major blow to AQIP's ability to carry out terrorist attacks outside of Yemen. It's odd to me that Mattis, in particular, hasn't said anything publicly since Trump has claimed repeatedly, including in Tuesday night's speech, that Mattis believes the mission was successful. "That being said, there is obvious a huge possibility of civilians being caught in the crossfire", Baron added.

Yemeni officials said at least 12 suspected militants were killed in those strikes.

The defense official said a large volume of information was collected, including phone numbers, contact information and data on AQAP members and how they are connected.

The father of Owens told the Miami Herald he spurned Trump when the coffin arrived at Dover Air Force base, and that he demanded "an investigation" into his son's death.
