Berkeley 'March 4 Trump' rally sparks violent clash

The display of intolerance comes less than a month after violent rioting took place at the school over the scheduled appearance by now-former Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos.

However, not every rally went off without a hitch. None of the injured was hospitalized.

Hundreds of supporters of President Donald Trump faced off with anti-Trump protesters Saturday afternoon at Berkeley's Civic Center.

In several cities, Trump supporters were met by anti-Trump demonstrators, resulting in violent clashes and arrests.

Christy Trammell of Franklin, Tenn., says she's attending the Nashville demonstration - her first political rally - as a direct response to January's women's marches. NBC Bay Area also noted that while some of the left-wingers hoped for a peaceful counter demonstration, that hope quickly faded as police had to intervene to stop several fights. Near Mar-a-Lago, the Palm Beach Post reported that people on both sides exchanged profanity.

"For me, I think it's a big deal that Trump's fighting to make America America again".

"We're gonna take our country back and we're gonna establish borders and have legal immigration and law and order", Cherie Francis, of Cary, N.C., told the Associated Press at a rally. "It's just all sad". In many towns and cities, the rallies did not draw more than a few hundred people, and some were at risk of being outnumbered by small groups of anti-Trump protesters that gathered to shout against the rallies.

Opponents of Trump had organized their own opposition rally at noon.

Hollis Harper, of Oklahoma City, held a sign with the names of Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin overlaid on a Russian flag.

The event was one of a series of rallies against and for the president since he was inaugurated.

Similar clashes and police crackdowns were also reported elsewhere in the USA, including Virginia and Pennsylvania. Some men were seen walking through the Raleigh crowd carrying a Trump flag as well as a Confederate flag. They turned out with signs, t-shirts, and gear supporting President Trump. A local organizer, 61-year-old Patty Collins, of Indianapolis, said Trump's critics "aren't giving him a chance". The vast majority of arrestees on Saturday were anti-Trump agitators. "I've been a Democrat all my life, but I changed", said Sonny Martin of Bensalem.

The rallies also meant to show unity in the face of what organizers call "a seditious fringe" aiming to sabotage President Trump's vision for the country. The anarchists were dressed in black and blocked traffic as they marched through downtown Berkeley, mingling with pro-Trump and anti-Trump demonstrators, according to the newspaper.

San Diego event was held at Ruocco Park in downtown San Diego.
