Kirk Cousins appeals to Dan Snyder for trade

Cousins' response should be to tell Washington not to get their hopes up about him signing his franchise tender.

It looks like Cousins, whose name has appeared in trade rumors, finally is fed up with Washington and wants out. Washington could also decide if there's no long-term deal to be had, it makes sense trading Cousins sooner than later - at least before the NFL Draft (April 27-29) - rather than lose him as a free agent 2018 for no compensation assuming there's no third franchise tag.

There are still speculations, though, that Cousins could still end up with the Niners next season as his former offensive coach, Kyle Shanahan, is now the Niners' head coach.

Cousins is coming off a solid season in which he threw for a career-high 4,917 yards with 25 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions as the Redskins finished 8-7-1 and failed to make the playoffs.

Free Agency Rumors: Bears are the front-runner for QB Mike Glennon
For his career, Glennon has completed 374 of 630 passes (59.4 percent), for 4,100 yards, with 30 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Glennon could be headed to Chicago to be Jay Cutler's new replacement as the possible answer at quarterback for the Bears.

Again, the Redskins don't have to deal Cousins.

But with Brian Hoyer the starter* in San Francisco, Cousins would quickly find a new home. The Washington Post reported Wednesday that there's no truth to a deal with San Francisco being deep in the Red-Zone. This includes a fourth-round compensatory selection, a fifth-round pick from the Redskins, a sixth-round pick from the Denver Broncos, and a seventh-round pick from the Cleveland Browns. Any trade leverage is on the 49ers side right now. This is what has led to all the Kirk Cousins-49ers trade rumors, with majority making sense when it comes to short-term improvement. It's not a plan guaranteed to work out, but it's one that seems to have a little more upside than others. DeSean Jackson (Buccaneers) and Pierre Garcon (49ers) are both expected to leave the Redskins in free agency.

This comes after a report on Tuesday from Mike Silver of the NFL Network saying that he believes Cousins wants to be traded to the 49ers.
