Madison judge blocks Donald Trump immigration order for Syrian man

The revised travel ban is scheduled to go into effect Thursday.

Trump's new order, which is set to take effect on March 16, temporarily blocks the issuance of new visas to citizens of six Muslim-majority countries, and it suspends the usa refugee program. Those opposing that argument said the new travel ban had the same effect as the original. He filed a federal lawsuit in February against the first travel ban.

"Bans like those included in this order are harmful to US national security and beneath the dignity of our great nation. Though repackaged, the President's revised Executive Order has the same discriminatory intent as the first one", Rosenblum said.

Several states have filed notices arguing that sections of the new travel ban have the same effect as the original one and that the White House can not unilaterally decide to change a court's ruling.

The suit alleges that the new executive order violates the constitutional protection of freedom of religion in that it is "intended and created to target and discriminate against Muslims, and it does just that in operation".

One strategy seeks to apply the pre-existing restraining order to the latest Trump directive, but the federal judge in Washington state who initially ruled against the first executive order declined Friday to extend his order to the new ban, citing procedural hurdles.

The Democratic attorneys general are doing to Trump what Republicans did to President Obama when he was in office by filing lawsuits blocking policies.

The parliamentarian noted that the public opinion about Trump has been negatively influenced by his latest decision and should the United States judicial system adopt a wise approach, the reaction against the new decision will be similar to the one against his last order.

Donald Trump himself met Russian ambassador before election
It seems like an eternity has passed since Trump entered the 2016 presidential primary, even though it's only 20 months. Trump made his startling claim of presidential abuse of power in a series of tweets early Saturday.

The new order also drops Iraq from the targeted list of countries whose citizens are barred from traveling to the United States, not because the administration suddenly deemed them a diminished threat but because alienating Iraq was a grievous diplomatic and military blunder.

Then again, members of Trump's inner circle have claimed that the revised ban accomplishes roughly the same outcome as the first.

Ferguson said earlier this week the revised travel ban has "the same illegal motivations as the original" according to the Associated Press.

Unlike the first order, the new ban would not affect current visa holders and removes language that would give priority to religious minorities. "Further, the order's drastic reduction in the number of refugees to be resettled in this fiscal year after the 120-day moratorium weakens this country's ability to provide global leadership and jeopardizes our national security interests by failing to support the stability of our allies that are struggling to host large numbers of refugees", the letter reads.

Separate news conferences are planned Thursday by Hawaii Attorney General Douglas Chin in Honolulu and Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson in Seattle.

The U.S. Justice Department is defending the ban.

A federal judge in Seattle issued a temporary restraining order halting Trump's initial travel ban order after Washington state and Minnesota sued.
