South Park: The Fractured But Whole Nintendo Switch Version Not Currently Planned

Still, the console has to maintain its popularity beyond its launch window first, so hopefully Nintendo has some good games to show at E3 to make the Switch a compelling purchase during the all-important holiday season later this year.

The Wall Street Journal (via Polygon) reported that Nintendo is planning to manufacture 16 million Switch consoles from April 1 until the same date in 2018.

GameStop on Friday announced it will be getting new shipments of Nintendo's new $300 console and expects a fresh supply to hit shelves around March 22. The Switch is set to blow by those number in just one year. This is the main reason why Nintendo has recently made a decision to double the production for their much appreciated console. Part of the reason why there is so much demand for the Switch is because people are flocking to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is because the last home console entry on Wii (this is a port of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U) was hugely popular, selling 36.8 million units. The 3DS portable system, meanwhile, has sold over 65 million units since its launch in early 2012. As per SuperData, the company has already sold 1.5 million units.

"GameStop continues to see strong demand from customers who are looking to purchase the Nintendo Switch system", the senior director of merchandising noted in a press release. While you can always resort to a site like eBay, many sellers are listing the Switch for well more than its $300 retail price, with some going as high as $500 or more. The console is breaking sales records for Nintendo, posting the biggest numbers for any Nintendo console launch in various regions worldwide. This Switch port includes both of the game's expansions, Afterbirth and Afterbirth+, which greatly expanded the original game by featuring a whole host of new items, monsters, endings and more.
