Baltimore Man Suspected In Manhattan Stabbing Wanted To Kill Black Men

Mar 23, 2017, 01:35

A well dressed stabbing suspect wanted for killing a 66-year-old homeless man in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen handed himself into police late on Tuesday night. Caughman walked to the Midtown South Precinct to report that he had been stabbed, and died at Bellevue Hospital around 1:00 a.m.

Police said the victim had engaged in a confrontation with another man, seen on surveillance video released by police, near the corner of West 36th Street and Ninth Avenue.

Jackson was expected to appear in court later Wednesday.

Caughman had been picking through thrash in midtown Manhattan on Monday when Jackson, who had concealed a 26-inch mini-sword in a long overcoat, walked up and repeatedly stabbed the unsuspecting Caughman. "It is believed that he was specifically intending to target male blacks".

Authorities said they have a 28-year-old suspect from Maryland in custody.

"The reason he picked NY is because it's the media capital of the world, and he wanted to make a statement", Aubry said.

Cannon-Brookes tweeted both Weatherill and Musk with the same message: "Not to push my luck ... big $ commitments pouring in". Sarah Hanson-Young, an Australian senator, said on Twitter on Friday that she wanted to talk to Musk about his offer.

"The reason why he picked NY was the media", Aubry expressed at a press conference following the incident, while adding that James Harris Jackson himself relayed that he was targeting "male blacks".

Aubry said Jackson considered stabbing more than just the one victim.

A white U.S. Army veteran from Baltimore bent on making a racist attack took a bus to NY, the "media capital of the world", randomly picked out a black man who was collecting bottles on the street and killed him with a sword, police said Wednesday.

Jackson told police he had several knives on him. "The country saw a resurgence of white nationalism that imperils the racial progress we've made", said Mark Potok, senior fellow and editor of the report, in a recent statement about racial attacks in 2016.

Marcus Dagan (dah-GAHN') said he informally helped manage a Baltimore building where suspect James Harris Jackson lived in 2014 and 2015.
