Storms Could Spawn Tornadoes Across Parts of Midwest

The National Weather Service is not ruling out an isolated strong storm this evening across the area as the atmosphere continues to be unstable.

A strong quick moving system will zip across the area today. That zone is home to almost 1.4 million people, and forecasters are warning them to expect storms and possible tornadoes through Friday evening. STILL, there is a concern for a few storms tonight to be severe for Scurry, Mitchell, Nolan, Fisher, Kent, and Stonewall counties close to midnight. There is a low threat these become severe with golf ball size hail and 75 miles per hour wind the main threats. As this low pressure system moves across the state and we add a little daytime heating, most models are in agreement that storms will develop and move off to the east pretty quickly.

Warmer temps are on the way Friday as our next cold front helps ramp up a southerly wind flow. So with that being said no 1 temperature can be given for a forecast high today.

Forecasters could have a busy week ahead, with three potential rounds of strong to severe storms possible through next week. Which is good news because this limits our severe storm risk for Saturday. However, there remains a possibility of large hail and even a few tornadoes. The severe weather bullseye is Arkansas and Louisiana.

That said, this time of year all forms of severe weather can be expected and now thru early June is typically the peak of tornado season for us. This tells us that within embedded thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts will be possible, and an isolated brief tornado can not be ruled out either. Lingering showers are possible Tuesday morning, followed by dry weather Wednesday and Thursday.
