Super Mario Run revenue fell short of expectations, says Nintendo

Here's the latest on "Super Mario Run" for iOS. Nintendo, bringing their own games to the platform, chose to not adopt this model at least at first- Super Mario Run would be a one time payment game.

Version 2.0 of "Super Mario Run" also provides free gamers more things to do before they popped the paywall.

According to Nikkei, the long-term success of Super Mario Run will be measured in how well it turns new Nintendo fans into console players and buyers: "The game's true value will be measured by how much it expands the ranks of Nintendo fans and helps sales of the Switch". The full game is available to purchase for $9.99 and it's a one time fee. Since its initial launch on iOS last December 2016, the game has had 78 million downloads, the gaming company stated last January.

Super Mario Run (which debuted on Android devices this week, and launched on iOS in December last year) is free to download, but requires a one-off-payment of £9.99 in the United Kingdom to proceed past its opening four levels.

Yet [Super Mario Run] was less of a moneymaker for Nintendo than might have been expected, due to the pay-once-and-play model.

However, Nintendo has indicated that it prefers the premium price tag to free-to-play.

Nintendo officially confirmed that Super Mario Run is going to come out 23 March, so it seems that the wait is finally over. However, it should probably pay more attention to Heroes' model, considering how much money it's making and how it's doing with millions of players taking part in its many battles. "A senior company official told Nikkei, "[Fire Emblem] Heroes is an outlier. It appears that Nintendo is looking to make good on its claims to use smartphones to introduce its games to a wider audience.
