Clinton knocks Trump for proposing cuts to USA diplomacy

"It will undermine our security and our understanding in the world", said Clinton.

The president's proposal cuts the State Department's budget by 28 percent ($10 billion) and the Environmental Protection Agency's budget by 31 percent, but boosts funding for the military by 29 percent. That's not just because of lackadaisical information handling but because State seems to be ground zero for what Trump officials have come to call the "Deep State": a collection of Obama-era hires that haven't been booted from their positions who are reportedly trying to cause headaches for the Republican president.

Imagine that a political leader who speaks from experience, knowledge, empathy, passion, and power about human rights.

Grassley said he was only able to confirm Clinton's top-secret access after Obama left the presidency.

Clinton then raised the letter signed by 120 former generals and admirals beseeching the Trump administration not to make the cuts.

So the work that is done here at this institute, here at Georgetown, making the evidence-based case for the role of women and peace in security is incredibly important.

In a speech Friday primarily devoted to women's role in diplomacy, Hillary Clinton got her longest applause lines when attacking the Trump administration.

Forecasters could have a busy week ahead, with three potential rounds of strong to severe storms possible through next week. There is a low threat these become severe with golf ball size hail and 75 miles per hour wind the main threats.

Clinton stressed the need for spending on diplomacy by quoting Defense Secretary James Mattis, who said cutting funds for the State Department means he has to buy more ammunition.

"Women are not only victims of war. but must be seen as makers of change", she said.

When 700 people crowded into the ballroom and overflow room at a Hilton in Scranton, Pa., to hear Clinton address a women's group on St. Patrick's Day, they didn't hear much about politics.

She made another apparent dig at Conway when she said: "Now, before anybody jumps to any conclusions, I will state clearly: Women are not inherently more peaceful than men". It is not a partisan issue.

After delivering facts proving that women are just as competent, if not better, than men in securing peace negotiations with other countries, Clinton couldn't help herself as she deftly ridiculed Donald Trump for his propensity towards fact-denial. "Standing up for the rights and opportunities of women and girls must be a cornerstone of American global leadership", she added, "and therefore it must be woven throughout our foreign policy".

Later in the speech, Clinton noted how she is once again speaking about "evidence" and "facts", a subtle knock on a Trump administration that has been critiqued for its relationship to the truth. Clinton spoke mostly about her family's connection to Scranton and spending summers there as a child.

Hillary Clinton seems to be enjoying being in the spotlight again since her defeat in the presidential race late a year ago.
