Tucson police: Remains of missing 6-year-old found

A portion of those remains were then sent to an out-of-state laboratory for DNA analysis, which confirmed they were the remains of the little girl, Magnus said.

Isabel Celis was last seen being put into bed in Tuscon, Arizona, at 11pm in April 2012.

Police say they have investigated more than 2,200 leads since the girl's disappearance nearly five years ago.

Cops have never named any suspects in Celis' disappearance, but did acknowledge in the early steps of the investigation that they had found "suspicious circumstances around a possible entry point" at her home. He said an investigation is ongoing but would not say whether there were any new suspects.

Isabel Celis, the six-year-old girl who disappeared almost five years ago from her home in midtown Tucson, has been found dead, Police Chief Chris Magnus announced Friday.

Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus cannot confirm when or where her remains were located, but the Pima County Medical Examiners Office could confirm the remains were those of Isabel Celis through DNA testing. Anxious about what could have happened to his daughter, her father reported her missing to the Tucson, Arizona police. He also dodged questions about what led investigators to the remote area where her remains were found, only telling reporters it was "not by happenstance".

Magnus said Friday that an independent lab identified the remains as those of Celis.
