The fire broke out early morning at the under-construction residential tower named "The Address Residence Fountain Views" near Dubai's biggest shopping mall.

No injuries reported in fire that broke out near Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.

Sunday's blaze was close to where a huge fire ripped through the luxury Address Downtown Hotel on December 31, 2015, only a few hours before a fireworks display nearby.

Social media posts of the blaze showed black smoke spreading across Dubai's skyline.

The site of the blaze was next to a 63-storey tower which was was heavily damaged in a fire on New Year's Eve in 2015.

Black smoke from the building could be seen from miles away, with Dubai residents posting up videos, photos and sending out tweets of the incident.

The 60-story Fountain Views complex, which is being built by state-backed Dubai developer Emaar Properties, eventually will connect to the massive Dubai Mall across the street. "It looks like it was quite low down", said witness Anthea Ayache.

Authorities were quick to dispatch fire fighting teams, including a helicopter and emergency crews as they cordoned off the surrounding area.
