Israeli police kill Palestinian who stabbed three in Jerusalem

Apr 03, 2017, 02:12

Mohammed Abu Hummus, the head of the popular committee of Isawiyah in East Jerusalem al-Quds, urged "anyone who believes in the Palestinian people to stand against the racist" Israeli regime.

Israeli police say they have apprehended a Palestinian who stabbed three people in the old city of Jerusalem.

The Palestinian health ministry, meanwhile, confirmed that a Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli police in East Jerusalem.

His remarks came after the Israeli government gave the green light to the construction of a new settlement in the Israeli-occupied West Bank for the first time in more than two decades.

"The stabbing attack in the Old City exposes the illusion that it's possible to deprive an entire people of rights and sovereignty without the desperation turning into frightful hatred and violence".

Almost 400,000 Jewish settlers are now living in the West Bank along with 2.8 million Palestinians.

According to the radio station, Netanyahu told his ministers that Israel would curb West Bank settlement construction as a gesture of goodwill to Trump and his administration.

Israel's settlement expansion defies the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 adopted in December 2016 that condemned the settlements as a "flagrant violation of worldwide law".

The condition of the attacker wasn't clear, although the Times of Israel reports that he was killed.

Netanyahu announced on Thursday to his ministers that Israel would self-impose restrictions on settlement building that is subject to constant condemnation by Palestinians and the worldwide community, considering it completely illegal, Efe news reported.

"He condemns all unilateral actions that, like the present one, which threaten peace and undermine the two-state solution", the spokesman said.

President Donald Trump is still wavering on this important matter, saying that peace is possible, but doing nothing to help push the process forward, including by condemning the grave Israeli violations of worldwide law and United Nations resolutions.
