NWS: Risk of Severe Thunderstorms Today

Apr 03, 2017, 02:08

John Bel Edwards put the entire state on "high alert" and warned residents to stay off the roads.

We will climb into the mid 80s Tuesday and Wednesday with a cold front bringing in a slight chance for rain Wednesday. Moist air flowing into the boundary could make for thunderstorm cells that move slowly and produce heavy rainfall.

A new tornado warning has been issued for southwestern Searcy County, northwestern Van Buren County and northeastern Pope County.

"Seconds later it hit", Higgins said.

Higgins said 38-year-old Francine Gotch and 3-year-old Neville Alexander were pronounced dead at the scene. Winds could be up to 60 miles per hour and there is a potential for tornadoes.

The governor held a press conference today to encourage everyone in the state to have a plan for severe weather.

Friday will mark the end of a week of widespread severe weather from the southern Plains to the Southeast. In fact, we are looking at one-to-three inches to fall between Saturday night and early Monday morning.

TIMING: Storms are in progress over the southern half of the state. As a storm system approaches us from the west, we'll turn our attention to the radar starting in the overnight hours.

The rain moving across Richmond and the Tri-Cities does not pose a threat for severe weather.

According to the data, another brief touchdown was reported at 7:47 p.m. during the March 6th, 2017 system, which was determined by a follow up survey conducted by the National Weather Service. "There's also a significant risk for tomorrow in MS into southern Alabama and so on as the system keeps moving".

Parts of the Landstown area saw damage, with roofs missing and chunks of siding pulled off homes, with contents spilling out. The roof was completely removed. The weather service got word of quarter-sized hail in Cherokee Village, Damascus, Buffalo City, Diamond City and Havana, meteorologist Joe Goudsward said.

And some of these storms could be severe while impacting the entire South-Central Texas region, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

Right now, it looks like the storms may come in a couple of waves.
