Did White House Pressure Spike This Week's Russia Hearing?

Committee member Rep. Eric Swalwell called on Nunes to recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe, criticizing Nunes for cancelling today's public hearing on Russian Federation.

The letters published Tuesday appeared to show a DOJ official telling Yates's lawyer that she would need "consent" from the White House to discuss certain conversations she had with administration officials. Please click the button below to manage your account.

But Spicer maintains that the reporting is completely inaccurate. "If the president puts Russian salad dressing on his salad tonight somehow that's a Russian connection", he added, accusing reporters of having an "agenda".

Tower during the election campaign.

If Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) is trying to cover for the Trump administration in the ever-widening Russian Federation scandal, he's doing an absolutely bad job of it. Nunes admitted that he met with an unidentified source on the White House grounds to review intelligence reports ahead of his claim that Trump transition members' communications were "incidentally" swept up by USA intelligence officials.

Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., a member of the House intelligence committee, is calling on Chairman Devin Nunes to step down from the panel.

But that didn't stop reporters from trying to insinuate the White House may have been the source of the information, or that the administration and Nunes had somehow been tainted.

After Nunes sabotaged the strategy of House Republicans to investigate the leaks, not the accumulating evidence, Trump was reduced to demanding that Congress investigate Hillary Clinton's ties to a Russian uranium deal, which are not the subject of an FBI investigation.

He arranged meetings between Trump and leaders from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

We're still a long way from Republicans abandoning Trump on the Russian Federation scandal, and it may take a shocking development or two to get us from here to there. Yates was the deputy attorney general in the final years of the Obama administration, and served as the acting attorney general in the first days of the Trump administration.

So now the question is, when will Chairman Nunes, who canceled today's hearing, during which Yates was scheduled to testify, re-schedule it?

Yates and another witness at the planned hearing, former C.I.A. director John Brennan, had made it clear to government officials by Thursday that their testimony to the committee probably would contradict some statements that White House officials had made, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

"We believe that the department's position in this regard is overbroad, incorrect, and inconsistent with the department's historical approach to the congressional testimony of current and former officials, " the letter continues. He also wrote that Yates' testimony would cover details that others have publicly recounted. "Everything is wrong with the fact that he went to the White House to obtain material that he didn't share with his own committee", Schiff told Morning Edition, "but then went back to the White House, reportedly to disclose to the White House".

"I hope she testifies".

The Justice Department had no immediate comment. Trump fired her over a separate issue - Yates told the Justice Department's attorneys not to defend in court Trump's order restricting travel from some Muslim-majority countries.

Nunes' office said that there was no cooperation with the White House regarding the hearing. The Senate Intelligence Committee wants to interview Jared Kushner as part of its investigation in to suspected Russian interference in the United States election.

Democratic members of Nunes' House committee said his ability to lead a bipartisan probe is compromised.
