Derek Jeter reportedly interested in bidding for Miami Marlins

Marlins owner Jeffery Loria has tried to sell the team a couple different times over the past few months.

As New Yorkers can be prone to do in retirement, Derek Jeter is contemplating a move to the cozier climate of Florida - as owner of the Miami Marlins.

Within that, at least three potential buyers have emerged - former New York Yankees player Derek Jeter, former GOP presidential candidate and former Florida governor Jeb Bush, and a group of businessmen with backing from Goldman Sachs. Jeter reportedly is working with former Morgan Stanley brokerage chief Gregory Fleming, while Bush is teaming with Citigroup.

The report also claims that my "post-All-Star Game" timeline could be nonsense, and that a deal could be done as early as March.

Jeter has long expressed interest in pursuing an ownership opportunity in MLB, though he's largely remained away from the public eye and from the world of baseball since his playing days came to an end after the 2014 season. But a statement from a Romney spokesperson said, 'Mitt Romney is not involved in an effort to buy the Marlins'.

When asked about the Fox report, and the possibility of Jeter owning a franchise, current Marlins Manager Don Mattingly praised the former Yankee shortstop, telling the ESPN that Jeter has always aspired to be an owner, preferring that to the life of a coach.

Jeter's Yankees lost to the Marlins in the 2003 World Series, despite being heavy favorites.

The price for the Marlins could be as much as $1.6 billion, according to the report. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred must approve any sale before it becomes official. It's still unknown who will buy the Marlins, but a baseball executive told Fox Business that the deal will go to whoever is offering the most cash. His brother, former president George W. Bush, was a co-owner and managing partner of the Texas Rangers in the 1990s.

Who knows? Perhaps with him in charge, he'll make changes that can coax the Marlins' fragile fan base out to that nice new stadium. "From that standpoint, I think it'd be pretty easy".
