A source close to the meeting confirmed U.S. secretary of energy Rick Perry had informed his counterparts that the U.S. was "reviewing" its climate and energy policies and therefore could not sign a joint declaration that referred to the treaty signed in Paris in 2015.
"Innovation is also a top priority for the Trump Administration", Perry added.
"The Secretary of Energy of the United States of America informed fellow Ministers and Commissioner that the United States is in the process of reviewing many of its policies and reserves its position on this issue, which will be communicated at a future date", he added.
