Vista off life support today

Apr 13, 2017, 01:37

What that means is no more security patches or hotfixes for the legacy operating system, which is now three generations behind the times (or four if you want to count Windows 8.1 as its own generational release).

There's still some good news, however, as the Netmarket Share website, which tracks the popularity of operating systems on the internet, reports that only 0.72% of the PCs on the internet use Windows Vista.

Windows 10 is the most recent version of Microsoft's operating system.

Luckily for us, Microsoft learnt its lessons well as it incorporated the necessary changes in Windows 7, which was released two years later in 2009. After full support ends today, computers running Vista will still work but they might become more vulnerable to security risks. The company announced on Tuesday that is will be ending all support for Windows Vista effective immediately. Even more concerning is that 52 percent of businesses are still running one instance of Windows XP, despite the OS reaching its end of support in April 2014.

1 dead, 2 injured in shooting at Village of Merrick Park
Police said the shooter is dead, The Miami Herald reported - and it is believed that he committed suicide after firing his gun. The wounded included the general manager Janine Ackerman and a trainer named Mario Hortis, the witnesses said.

That's a tiny amount - and not really worth a hacker's time, especially when the similarly unsupported Windows XP offers a much bigger target (it's still used by 7.44% of PCs on the internet). When it arrived, Vista quickly gained a name for being far more resource intensive than XP. Microsoft had already ended mainstream support for Vista several years-April 10, 2012, to be exact. While Windows Vista was not the best work from the company following heavy criticism and issues, it did help set foundations for the modern versions of Windows that we're using today. Those who had heard negative things about Vista were given the operating system under a different name, and it turned out they loved it.

Windows Vista, codenamed Longhorn, reached general availability on January 30, 2007 and today, the software is reaching the end of its lifecycle.

What are your thoughts about Windows Vista's desolvation? It will also add Game Mode, which is created to make any PC game run and perform faster by allocating more of a PC's hardware resources to those titles. Hence, if we try using Window Vista and internet explorer 9 together it would lead the PC to additional threats.
