Thousands in Los Angeles demand Trump's taxes

Thousands of people marched through Manhattan and several other cities in the United States on Saturday, demanding President Donald Trump to release his tax returns.

"I did what was an nearly an impossible thing to do for a Republican-easily won the Electoral College!"

The white house said they've not been released, and may never be, because the President is still under audit. "Now Tax Returns are brought up again?"

But 71-year-old Ilene Singh said he's wrong.

Trump was the first major-party nominee in more than 40 years not to release his returns and he reneged on a campaign commitment to release them.

The march was held on the traditional April 15 deadline for the U.S. federal tax returns, the filing however has been pushed back by two days. When pressed on the issue, he said he doesn't think most Americans care.

Violence erupted at one of those rallies, and many people were arrested in Berkeley, Calif., where groups that support and oppose the president clashed.

"Until he does, we'll never know what he's hiding or who his policies are created to benefit", said organisers of the "Tax March" demonstrations on its website.

But many demonstrators said they hoped Saturday's marches would convince Trump otherwise.

Two of the biggest Tax rallies took place in NY and Los Angeles, where witnesses said about 5,000 people were present in each cities, demanding the president to release his taxes.

Jeff Denham of California added, "I'm not going to ask the previous President that I served under to show his birth certificate any more than I would ask this President to show his taxes".

Registered nurse Pam Craig of Greensboro says Trump's returns may show he has paid little or nothing to run the government he now heads. Trump's break with precedent has raised questions about possible conflicts of interest.

Kinzinger also said that the vast majority of Americans want to see Trump's tax returns released, even though it's not a top priority for them, which recent polls confirm.

And making the audits automatic may have been meant to bolster public confidence that the IRS will audit presidents of both parties and not let it become something the agency does at its discretion, according to tax lawyer Steven Rosenthal, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center.
