As such, Google is launching the Jump Start program for 100 eager filmmakers who want to try using the Yi Halo.

The 17-camera monster rig is expected to go on sale in the coming summer season. The Yi Halo has 17 4K resolution camera units inside, which also includes a camera that is placed up in order to capture what Google calls "immersive scenes that transport viewers".

Since YI Halo is targeted at professionals working with high-quality, high-resolution 360-degree photos and videos as well as VR, its price is expected to be sky high at $16,999.

Those 17 cameras and Jump stitching software work together to create an 8K x 8K resolution at 30 frames per second.

Moving on to the Yi 360 VR, the consumer-centric camera, as the name suggests, it can record videos and pictures in 360-degrees.

YI Technology today unveiled YI HALO, a next-generation virtual-reality camera built with Google's Jump technology.

The Yi Halo also an extra camera over the Odyssey.

The very big camera setup is capable of shooting 8K stereoscopic video at 30 frames per second (fps) or 5.8K at 60 frames per second. But now, Google is revealing the next-generation Jump camera, and it's a $16,999 device made by Chinese company Yi Technology. It looks like an old-school slide carousel and weight about eight pounds.

Facebook, meanwhile, has chosen to build its own camera for two consecutive years, although this year the social network is looking to camera company Flir to build a brawnier 24-camera rig alongside Facebook's own smaller six-camera system. Sean Da, Yi's CEO, says that the rig will let operators control various manual settings, such as the ISO, white balance, and more. Users can also turn to third-party battery solutions, offering utmost compatibility. The filmmakers will be given access to the Halo and Jump Assembler software in order to create 360-degree movies.

But while GoPro was thin on details for the Fusion, Yi showed up at NAB ready with specs for its announcement. The tech giant is now expanding its hardware efforts with the release of the next-gen 360 VR camera setup - YI HALO. They'll be given access to a free Jump camera as well as the Jump Assembler to help kick off more virtual reality content. Applications are open today and run until May 22nd.
