French Rugby League Player Punches Ref Unconscious, Faces Lifetime Ban

In a French Cup semi-final match between Saint-Esteve and Toulouse, referee Benjamin Casty sent a player from the field only to be violently attacked by the man in question with a punch straight to the jaw.

The unnamed player for Saint-Esteve punched the referee after being shown a yellow card and proceeded to punch opposing players who confronted him.

A French rugby league referee was left floored last weekend after a sickening punch from a player.

Opposition players then step in and become embroiled in further exchanges with the player before the match is immediately abandoned after just 25 minutes.

Referee Benjamin Casty was rushed to hospital after the incident and is believed to have suffered a broken jaw.
