Jets 2017 NFL Draft Day 2 Grade

Two NFL draft analysts are wondering the same.

After drafting safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye with their first two picks in the National Football League draft, it appeared the Jets were ready to move on from Calvin Pryor.

The first of the bunch was safety Marcus Maye, who was selected 39th overall by the New York Jets in the second round. This safety is a solid pick by the New York Jets.

Of course, Texas A&M edge defender Myles Garrett went to the Cleveland Browns with the top selection. One includes lineman Leonard Williams, the Jets most valuable player at this point.

While Jamal's high school coach will watch the draft from home, his parents have made the trip to Philadelphia to share in their son's proudest moment. In one of his first addresses to Jets fans via social media, Adams said that, "Not only are you (Jets fans) getting a good player, you're getting a good person".

The former LSU linebacker joins a Bucs team that finished the 2016 season ranked 23rd in total yards allowed at 5,887, and 15th in points allowed with 23.1 points per game. Imagine how good he can become once he gets more experience under his belt.

"Even though I was with the Giants and he's with the Jets, it doesn't matter", added George, who was drafted 19th overall in 1985. Reed gave the Browns fits for years, wouldn't it be nice to have a safety that does the same for Browns opponents?

Playing three years in the SEC, Adams has constantly butted heads with the best talent in college football.

Should the Jets draft another QB? Gilchrist also might not be ready for 2017, as he is recovering from surgery. Western Kentucky guard Forrest Lamp proved himself against Alabama last season and could be a difference maker. It's OK-Hooker or Adams are back there to help. The last tight end that was productive was Dustin Keller back in 2011. It's OK-those two safeties can take them out of the game, unlike what the Browns have been able to do in recent memory.

"What I said about Hackenberg a year ago is, you could find a throw or two or three off every one of his tapes where you go, 'Wow". Their second round draft picks have been historically abysmal, nearly to the point where you wonder whether Woody Johnson isn't specifically telling his GMs to try to take the riskiest, low-floor players possible in this round.

In many ways, the Adams family has come full circle. None of this class' quarterbacks can do that.
