From walk-on to NFL Draft first round, Temple's Reddick living the dream

Arizona used their 13th overall pick on Temple linebacker Haason Reddick, a talent and versatile player who can be used in a variety of ways. The former Temple star wasn't shy about telling me where he believed he stood amongst the draft-eligible defensive players. He ran a blazing 4.52 second 40 yard dash and was a top performer in other key drills like the broad jump, just put together an impressive 2016 season, and has the speed, athleticism and toolkit to be a special pass rusher at the National Football League level. That set the stage for a monster senior season, when Reddick terrorized quarterbacks for 9.5 sacks en route to first-team All-AAC honors.

Arians said he sees a lot of the Denver Broncos' Von Miller in Reddick, which could be scary good for the Cardinals. Still, with as much speed and agility as Reddick has, the Cardinals believe there's certainly potential for growth as an inside linebacker, as evidenced by Keim's comments regarding Reddick's Senior Bowl performance. He might get brought along slowly in a talented Arizona defense, but Reddick could earn a starting role right away if the Cardinals don't turn back to the recently reinstated Daryl Washington.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians was head coach at Temple in the 1980s. "That was handsome. I didn't know it was going to be that loud".

Temple had three players selected a season ago - Tavon Young, Matt Ioannidis, and Tyler Matakevich - which tied a school record for most players drafted in one year. That cost Reddick's mother almost $100,000 in tuition to keep him in school until receiving a scholarship his senior season. That it happened in Philadelphia, the city just across the Delaware River from his native Camden, New Jersey and where he played college football, made it more special. He spent most of his time at defensive end, but he's expected to move to linebacker in the NFL. "And to be able to share that moment with them, I wouldn't want to spend that moment any other way". "It was a mystery the last couple of weeks", Trubisky said.

He tested off the charts at the Scouting Combine, showing has the measurables and athleticism to play any of the three linebacker spots, and the Bengals need more depth at all three spots.

The 6-foot-3, 273-pound Thomas has the ability to play tackle or end. "So, going from where I was to where I could end up, it's all been great".

"Will we be back here another year or will we start moving this thing around year-by-year?" And since Reuben Foster's has taken a hit, Reddick might go inside the top 10. Reddick was given a single-digit number for Temple, which are reserved for the toughest players.
