Phoenix Authorities Charge Man in Connection With 9 Fatal Shootings

Police believe Saucedo also tried to kill a 21-year-old man and his 4-year-old nephew on July 11, shooting at the random passengers as they sat in their vehicle, but the pair escaped the scene unharmed, according to CBS.

When the judge assured him he was presumed innocent, Saucedo replied, "Yeah".

But at midnight on April 20, the phone rang at her home in Colorado.

"I was just in shock", she said. "The only thing I can say is thank God there's going to be justice and we leave it in God's hands".

Police in Arizona say they've caught the notorious "serial street shooter" believed to have fatally shot at least nine people, mostly at random, during a 12-incident shooting spree that terrorized locals in Phoenix in 2015 and 2016. "We hope that our community will rest a little easier and that our officers will get a little more sleep knowing that the wheels of justice are finally in motion", she said.

Saucedo is being held without bond.

Police announced Monday that Saucedo had been arrested in the case dubbed the Serial Street Shooter.

The youngest of his alleged victims was 12-year-old Maleah Ellis, who was killed on June 12, 2016, with her mom, Stefanie Ellis, and family friend Angela Linner.

The trail seemed to have run cold, despite more than 3,300 tips to the Silent Witness program and the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sawmill Fire Spreads Overnight Above Green Valley, Arizona
An evacuation order remained in place for Rain Valley, about two miles west of the intersection of highways 90 and 82. The fire is still under investigation even though fire officials have determined it was human-caused.

Police said tips from the community led police to the suspect.

For more than a year, a phantom gunman lurked in Phoenix. At the time, investigators were looking into a separate string of shootings that targeted drivers on Phoenix-area freeways.

Lydia Lopez, the mother of Jesse Olivas, said she suspected her son's death was connected to the Serial Street Shooter.

Saucedo faces the possibility of more than two dozen criminal charges, including murder, aggravated assault and drive-by shootings, Williams said.

Saucedo also allegedly shot at a 21-year-old man and his nephew while they were sitting in their vehicle on July 11, 2016, but neither was injured.

Other victims cops believe were killed by Saucedo are Diego Verdugo-Sanchez and Krystal White, who were both gunned down in April of a year ago; and Horacio De Jesus Peña and Manuel Castro Garcia, who were fatally shot last June.

Detectives produced sketches based on statements provided by witnesses and survivors with police at one stage having offered a $75,000 reward for information which might trace him but the killer went unstopped for more than a year.

Castro said she was happy a suspect has been arrested but sad because it does not mean her son will come back.

"Multiple homicides are much more likely to be committed by someone who is older, who has led a life of frustration over decades and has made a decision to get even with society", Levin said. At first, they assumed it was a robbery, but nothing had been taken. "Stop him from hurting other families".
