Fernando Alonso's Indy 500 vehicle will go to his museum

May 16, 2017, 09:10

In that time he has travelled to America to visit the IndyCar paddock in Alabama and conduct his highly-publicised test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, as well as contesting F1 race weekends in Bahrain, Russia and now Spain.

Exactly four years on from his last victory, which he claimed at the same circuit, Alonso's home race weekend got off to a miserable start as his auto broke down after just three corners in FP1. "Those ahead of us were hitting each other, I took a risk, but maybe I could have stayed behind him, but I had nothing to lose".

The drip turned into a gushing pour of yellowish liquid when a crane lifted the McLaren away from the track.

Alonso is out of contract at the end of this season and has said he wants to stay in F1 if he can find a vehicle that will allow him to fight at the front.

Alonso felt his time behind Kvyat - almost one third of the race distance - underlined how Honda is compromising McLaren's opportunities on Sundays. He said of Honda: 'I try to drive as fast as I can but it's a much bigger problem for them'.

In the morning, Alonso had just made his entry on the track before his Spanish fans, when he stopped at the third corner, rear wheels blocked.

"The second is to find how competitive we can be here, which is quite different to the last couple of races, plus with the updates people bring here, normally things change".

McLaren's team radio told Alonso to "stop the vehicle, stop the auto, engine problem" as yellowish liquid dripped from the underside.

Yet, to get the document passed, President Donald Trump had to make concessions to the Democrats. Aides to politicians involved in the talks announced the agreement after weeks of negotiations.

Despite his optimism of the front, the new event of Alonso further darkens his future at McLaren-Honda, while he did not finish a single race in the first four Global Positioning System of the season.

The 2017 auto has failed to yield any points this season, leaving McLaren bottom of the team rankings.

With the new engine in place, Vettel's auto gave him a scare when he slowed down just two laps into qualifying, and his team ordered him to return to the garage. There was on auto on one side of the garage with only two people working on it, and on the other side was this vehicle with people all over it like bees.

At the moment, I don't have aby obligations towards McLaren, I'm happy with the team, but we're not winning.

But Alonso has chosen to race at Indianapolis instead of Monaco in two weeks, posing the question of whether he will miss out on one of his best points-scoring opportunities of the year.

Ferrari also had to change the power unit of Vettel's auto following his precautionary stop in pit lane near the end of the third practice because of a "telemetry issue". After marshals rolled him back to his garage, his mechanics quickly fixed the problem and he went back out.

"My intention, and my first priority, is to race here (F1) next year, but not just to race..."
