ICE says 90 percent of 188 arrested in California repeat criminals

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests totaled 41,898 between January 20 and April 29, 2017, compared to 31,128 over the same period a year ago, according to spokesperson Danielle Bennett.

The operation was conducted from Saturday night through Wednesday.

The only noncriminal alien arrested during the local operation was a Mexican national who had been previously deported and illegally re-entered the U.S., Kice said. Almost 75 percent of those arrested during that period this year are convicted criminals. Within the group, 15 individuals were previously convicted of sex crimes, including a convicted rapist, an earlier deported cocaine trafficker and tw0 with child cruelty convictions.

Those convictions included: three driving-under-the-influence arrests; re-entry after deportation; trespassing; drug trafficking; providing false identification; illegal entry; and escape.

"Some of these risky individuals had been released to the streets instead of being turned over to ICE or our detainers, which compromises the safety of the homeland that ICE officers strive to protect every day", ERO Philadelphia Acting Field Office Director Jennifer Ritchey said in the release. The vast majority of those detained were men and more than 75 percent came from Mexico. He later returned to the country illegally, ICE said. "This administration has made clear we are a nation of immigrants but we are also a nation of laws".

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Jennifer Elzea said in an email to Reuters news agency: "ICE is unable to comment on pending litigation".

The majority - 146 - are from Mexico while two are from Russian Federation and one from Cambodia.

Los Angeles County represented the largest number detained at 93, while Riverside County had 26, Orange, 23, San Bernardino, 21 and Ventura, 14.

According to ICE, more arrests were made in Dallas (4,969) than any other city, followed by Atlanta (4,246) and Houston (4,040).

"His daughter is active-duty military, his son-in-law is active-duty military", Pasquarella said.

ICE claims they have made more than 41,000 arrests across the nation, since President Donald Trump signed his first executive order on immigration enforcement, an increase of 40 percent from the same period past year. “Hes been a valued member of his family and community for decades and they seem to be going after people for a conviction thats as old as 1992.”.

"The same data shows that numerous non-sanctuary jurisdictions saw a higher increase in ICE arrests under Trump policies than did areas with major sanctuaries".

Anyone not being criminally prosecuted will be processed for deportation, ICE officials said.
