Fresh from his travels, Trump rails on Twitter about 'fake news'

May 29, 2017, 09:02

Back after a nine day overseas trip, President Donald Trump returned to a familiar plan of operations on Sunday, as he used Twitter to jab at his critics and the news media, vowing to push ahead on his legislative agenda in the Congress, and making clear he wants a crack down on leaks from the U.S. Government.

Despite reports that the president is mulling yet another staff shake-up, the president remains defiant, insisting the fake news media is trying to muddy his message.

"Whenever you see the words "sources say" in the fake news media, and they don't mention names.it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers".

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 28, 2017 Does anyone notice how the Montana Congressional race was such a big deal to Dems & Fake News until the Republican won?

The President, who significantly curtailed his presence on Twitter during his first global tour - which took him to Saudi Arabia, Israel, The Vatican, Brussels and Sicily - could certainly be irritated at the revelations regarding Kushner published by The Washington Post last Friday in an article citing "US.officials briefed on intelligence reports".

Shortly after Mr Trump's remarks, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly made the rounds of Sunday television news shows to praise any so-called back channel communications, especially with Russian Federation, as "a good thing". "#FakeNews is the enemy!"

"You've got the ambassador to Russian Federation reporting back to Moscow on an open channel", Graham said.

Other reports about Kushner's interactions with Russian officials have surfaced in recent days in other major news outlets, including The Washington Post.

Mr Schiff said he expected Mr Kushner to appear before his committee, and suggested his security clearance be reviewed.

Kushner initially had come to the attention of FBI investigators past year as they began scrutinizing former national security adviser Michael Flynn's connections with Russian officials, the two sources told Reuters.

"Russia, at least for my money, is our primary adversary", he told NBC.
