Nevada governor to sign net metering revival bill tomorrow

In his last actions stemming from the just-concluded 2017 legislative session, Gov. Brian Sandoval on Friday vetoed four bills, including a measure that would have increased Nevada's reliance on green energy. In December 2015, utility regulators upended state law in an abrupt decision to eliminate solar net metering, blindsiding Nevada's solar industry and almost 30,000 rooftop solar customers.

The Nevada legislature earlier this year passed two additional renewable energy bills, Assembly Bill 206 and Senate Bill 392. History will show that today Nevada took an important step that will return it to its rightful spot as a top solar state.

According to a statement on his website, Governor Sandoval will sign AB 405 at 9:30 AM on Thursday at a Tesla warehouse in Las Vegas.

Nevada is boosting credits for solar power from rooftop panels in a move to revive the industry in the state and bring back sales from Tesla Inc.'s SolarCity and other installers.

Nevada lost nearly 2,600 jobs after the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada eliminated net metering in late 2015. Senate Bill 392 instructs the Public Utilities Commission to adopt standards for the operation of community solar gardens. This law will give homeowners and businesses who may have wanted to go solar the assurances they sought, and we expect strong solar growth and jobs to follow.

Nevada is resetting energy credits that officials say will make solar panels a more affordable option for home-owners and make the state a leader in clean energy production.
