Trump Not Expected To Block Comey's Senate Testimony

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said Sunday on "Face the Nation" that important elements of President Donald Trump's interactions with former FBI Director James Comey are the tone and "exact words" that were spoken.

The former FBI chief is scheduled to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is also conducting an investigation into the election and possible collusion. Putin has repeated there is no evidence of Kremlin involvement in the election.

Executive privilege is a murky legal concept, say experts. Trump was spending part of Saturday at the Trump National Golf Club outside of Washington. Earlier on Friday, the White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, would not say what Mr. Trump planned to do. The White House has denied that a "conversation of that nature occurred".

Mr Comey has reportedly spoken with Special Counsel Robert Mueller - who is now overseeing the Russian Federation investigation for the Justice Department - to work out what he can publicly discuss in his testimony and thereby ensure there are no legal issues.

Lawmakers from both parties are urging President Donald Trump not to stand in the way of fired FBI Director James Comey, who is scheduled to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating possible Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation. Trump could argue that discussions with Comey pertained to national security and had the expectation of privacy.

Democrats have said that Mr. Trump's conversations with Mr. Comey show that the president was trying to obstruct the F.B.I.'s investigation into Mr. Flynn, who is under scrutiny for calls he had with the Russian ambassador and for work he did for a firm that had ties to the Turkish government. Flynn was ousted on 13 February.

At the same time, Franken said he was hopeful special counsel Robert Mueller, a former FBI director, would unearth answers in his investigation into the issue.

It might be the other way. "Congratulations from our side - we need to give them credit". Valtteri Bottas was fourth and as we already said, Hamilton finished in the 7th place.

"I don't believe he is", he said when asked if the President was the target of an investigation.

She said: "We'll be watching with the rest of the world when director Comey testifies".

Conceivably, the administration could seek a court injunction against Comey testifying, in which case a violation would constitute contempt of court.

The committee on Wednesday issued seven subpoenas seeking testimony and information in its investigation into Russian activities during the election.

Within a week of James Comey's shock firing, Robert Mueller was appointed on May 17 as special counsel designated by the Justice Department to lead the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. 2016 election.

"While the President has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the President has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn", a White House official said in a statement.

In addition to those four subpoenas, the committee has issued three others to the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the CIA for information about requests that government officials made to unmask the identities of USA individuals named in classified intelligence reports, according to a congressional aide.
