Bill Cosby trial Day 8: Jury resumes deliberations for a third day

Jun 22, 2017, 08:17

Actor Bill Cosby (L) arrives at the Montgomery County Courthouse on June 14, 2017 in Norristown, Pennsylvania.br / The US jury presiding over the Bill Cosby trial will deliberate for a third day after failing to reach a verdict on whether the disgraced cultural icon drugged and sexually assaulted a woman 13 years ago.

Jackson claims that Constand did tell her she was drugged and sexually assaulted shortly after the 2004 incident, but then told her it didn't happen.

Cosby, 79 and almost blind, is charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault in connection with his encounter with accuser Constand; if convicted Cosby faces years in prison.

Outside the courthouse, Constand's lawyers blasted the Cosby team Tuesday for releasing a statement from a woman who had been blocked from testifying at the trial. They were chosen in Pittsburgh and bused 300 miles to suburban Philadelphia, where they are sequestered until the trial's end. The jury deliberated four hours on Monday and another 12 hours on Tuesday. They are still ongoing at this time.

Cosby refused to testify and his lawyers called just one witness, a police detective, before resting their case minutes later on Monday.

The last day of the defense's case included presenting a 2005 testimony by Mr. Cosby about giving Quaaludes to women he wanted to have sex with.

The verdict was to be called on Tuesday, but the fate of famed U.S. comedian, Bill Cosby, will have to wait till at least Wednesday, June 14, in the criminal case against him involving alleged sexual assault of a woman in 2004.

Identical knives , with the brand name Ernesto, were carried by Rachid Redouane, 30, and 22-year-old Youssef Zaghba . The three attackers were wearing fake suicide belts consisting of plastic water bottles wrapped in gray duct tape.

Prosecutor, Kevin Steele, has asked the jury to indict Cosby, weaving in all of the comedian's previous admissions about drugging and sexual preferences, to allude that he has already confessed to the charge of assault. Each carries a maximum 10-year prison term, though the counts could be merged at sentencing if he is convicted.

But Constand's is the only criminal case against him as under U.S. statues of limitations.

They also wanted to hear Cosby's wording when he referred to the three pills as "friends", as well as Constand's initial statements to authorities in Canada. "Simply, you're exhausted, and I respect that", O'Neill said. She reported him to human resources, but was told he would get a lecture and no further punishment because he was a "high performer", she wrote. Cosby declined to testify in his own defense, and his attorneys only called one witness.

McMonagle did not deny that Cosby slept with Constand but argued that the relationship was consensual. That same day, the jury asked to hear read-backs of police testimony about Cosby's 2005 interview with police at his attorney's NY law office.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done. Attorney Gloria Allred confirmed that a civil case against Cosby is scheduled to start later this month in California.

Cosby spokesman Andrew Wyatt, who guides the vision-impaired Cosby throughout his day, has drawn throngs of cameras with his updates on Cosby's mood — "very confident", is a common refrain — and assertions that the 79-year-old comedian isn't getting a fair shake.
