Texas mother charged in deaths of toddlers left in hot car

She is charged with two first-degree felony counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Two toddlers died after being left in a hot auto by their mother who said she left them there to teach them a lesson.

She then told officers that she had to break a window and rescue the children, then called 911, authorities said.

After extensive interviews with police, investigators determined that Randolph actually intentionally left the children in the vehicle to teach young Juliet a lesson.

She said that about 12:15 p.m. that day, she had found the children playing inside the vehicle and ordered her daughter out of the auto, using profanity. It wasn't clear if she had an attorney - online jail records didn't list one for her - and she doesn't have a listed phone number. The incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. when it was about 96 degrees.

A mother has been charged over the deaths of her two young children after she locked them in a auto, and left them there. She said the two children got in the auto on their own and locked themselves in. Authorities later determined that the children died from extreme heat exposure. The children were pronounced dead at 4:33 p.m.

Randolph initially told cops she found two-year-old Juliet and 16-month-old Cavanaugh passed out in the locked auto outside their home near Lake Weatherford, so she smashed the window to get them out.

Randolph then when back into the home, smoked marijuana and slept for two to three hours, according to FOX4.

At the time, for reasons not necessarily understood the mother believed her children would leave the auto on their own when "they were ready". During subsequent interviews with the police and with Texas Rangers, Randolph kept changing her story.

Randolph initially said she was inside her residence folding laundry and watching television as the children played in an enclosed back porch visible from the living room. The Tarrant County medical examiner's office has not yet ruled on the manner and cause of each child's death.

Sheriff Fowler originally said on May 26, that any incidents involving any child are hard ones, but this call was especially heartbreaking with the unfortunate deaths of the two children.
