Eight cops thrashed by army personnel in Kashmir

Eight policemen, including an Assistant Sub Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police, were injured after a posse of Armymen attacked a a police station in Ganderbal district and beat them up late Friday night, NDTV reported.

Following a militant attack on Amarnath yatra bus in south Kashmir early this month, authorities issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of not allowing yatri movement after 1930 hrs. "However, the personnel without showing any identification came down from the vehicles and started thrashing the on-duty officer and other officials, resulting injuries to the officer", alleged the police. "There was some altercation between policemen and Army", he said.

The incident occurred when the army personnel - who were dressed in civilian clothing - were stopped at a barricade in the district by policemen while they were returning from the Amarnath yatra. "The matter has been resolved by personal intervention of senior officers.", Kalia said.

"All these army men were in civvies and travelling in private vehicles".

After that army parties of COB Gund and COB Surfraw 24 RR headed by captain Shukla along with the personnel in civvies entered in P/S Gund and thrashed/injured all the police personnel present in the P/S and damaged some records of P/S Gund Ganderbal as well as some belongings of officials.

The Army men were travelling beyond the cut off time of 2pm for the vehicles to pass, said reports.

An FIR under Section of 147, 148,307,323, 332, 353,427, 120-B of the Ranbir Penal Code has been registered in the incident. "Two of them have received grievous injuries", a police official said.
