West Nile Virus Reported In McLean County

McLean County Health Department reports a mosquito pool collected in Bloomington on August 1 tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

They are the 10th, 11th and 12th positive West Nile Virus mosquito samples in Lewisville this year. The Vector Control District plans to collect adult mosquitoes with traps in the area where the crow was discovered. This brings it up to 19 cases this year.

The City of Frisco says it supports precautionary habits promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services, including wearing mosquito repellent, draining standing water, and wearing long sleeves at dawn and dusk.

You probably should drain any standing water after Monday's rainfall: Mosquitoes recently trapped in Blue Ash have tested positive for West Nile virus. The bite of this mosquito is very gentle and usually unnoticed by people. In 2016, there was one human case of West Nile Virus in Milford. The virus' symptoms can appear 13 to 14 days after an infection.

To keep mosquitoes from entering a home, make sure window and door screens are in place and are in good condition. Those who do become ill usually experience mild symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle ache, rash, and fatigue.
