Chinese Troops Enter Ladakh on Independence Day

Meanwhile at least 52 trucks belonging to PLA parked on the road built by the Chinese army were spotted on the side of the lake. Chinese troops had managed to enter up to Finger Four area in the region of Ladakh from where they were sent back. In tune with the conflict, the Indian and Chinese military representatives did not hold the Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) on August 15.

A Chinese defence expert had earlier told the Global Times that this move would be justified as it would be on the lines of the "same logic" that the Indian Army has been using to halt China's road construction project at the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet trijunction.

The Chinese soldiers hurled stones while attempting to enter Ladakh region near Pangong Lake on Tuesday but were confronted by Indian soldiers, said a top police officer.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said she did not know the details of the most recent incident. However, there were reports of troops from both sides exchanging candies on the occasion on Tuesday. The Indian soldiers were seen scuffling with a Chinese soldier in the video footage broadcast.

It ended up with heated exchange between the two sides resulting in stone-pelting that caused minor injuries to personnel on both sides.

The US department also stated, we want India, China to have conversations because we have the relationship between both governments.

The two armies are already engaged in a standoff in the Doklam Plateau further east, in another part of their 3,500-kilometer-long unmarked mountain border.

The two sides have frequently accused each other of intrusions into each other's territories, but clashes are rare.

According to reports, amid the ongoing Doklam standoff in the Sikkim sector, this was the first time since 2005 that People's Liberation Army (PLA) has declined to meet with their Indian counterparts. But Beijing has said India had no role to play in the area and diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis have not made much headway.
