Thousands Are Marching At The "Boston Free Speech Rally", Days After Charlottesville

Thousands Are Marching At The

Despite arguments between the Boston Free Speech rally organizers and the city over the issuance of permits, the proper paperwork was filed and the rally participants were allowed to begin setting up at 10 o'clock, with the march scheduled to begin at noon local time.

Christopher Cantwell tells The Associated Press on Thursday that he told the task force member that he knew of no plans by people taking part in Saturday's rally to stir up violence, but they would defend themselves if attacked.

A woman was killed at that Unite the Right rally, and scores of others were injured, when a auto plowed into counterdemonstrators. Multiple social justice groups from ME will travel to Boston to take part in Saturday's rally, speaking out against hatred and white supremacy.

Critics of the Boston rally say they'll be going into the city to decry those groups who they believe have become more empowered in recent months.

The Boston rally will come one week after violence in Charlottesville, Virginia; it's where a white supremacist rally turned deadly as marchers clashed with counter-protesters.

"We don't support hate groups, we don't have any hate groups speaking at our event", Boston Free Speech organizer John Medlar said.

Judging by the on-the-ground news coverage, they have barricades set up which are meant to keep the two groups of rally participants and counter protesters separated.

Katie Griffiths, 48, a social worker also from Cambridge, who works with members of poor and minority communities, said she finds the hate and violence happening "very scary".

A counter-protest is also planned, with some 11,000 people saying on Facebook they plan to attend.

After being sworn in on Saturday, Rouhani will have two weeks to present his cabinet to the parliament for a vote of confidence. Khamenei took a tougher line, saying Iran must not fall for Washington's "tricks".

Many expect McAuliffe's review will lead to stricter limits on who can march and where.

Boston Police have a variety of precautions in place for the rally, including barricades to separate rallygoers from counter-protesters.

"We will not be offering our platform to racism or bigotry", organizers said in a Facebook post earlier this week.

Police Commissioner William Evans said Friday that 500 officers - some in uniform, others undercover - were deployed to keep the two groups apart Saturday.

Organizers with Boston Free Speech have denied affiliation with the Charlottesville rally and indicate the movement is "dedicated to peaceful rallies".

"There have been questions about why we granted a permit for the rally", Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said on Friday. "The courts have made it abundantly clear, they have the right to gather no matter how repugnant their views are".

A growing number of USA political leaders have called for the removal of statues honouring the Confederacy, with civil rights activists charging that they promote racism. They left after less than an hour.

"Unfortunately, I think there's going to be a few troublemakers here". "We don't want you here".
