Current Walmart customers can link their accounts to Google for personalized shopping suggestions that factor in past purchases that are usually repeated.

By making its products available on Google Assistant, Walmart is opening up a new avenue for sales, one that could be a major growth driver for the retailer in the future.

United States retailer Walmart and internet giant Google have teamed up to offer voice-enabled shopping and delivery services. Because of Google's technology, Lore said it just made sense to team up with the tech giant.

In return, Google would lend its artificial intelligence and data expertise to simplify the shopping process.

If using your voice you can order one product at a time, or you can add lots of products to your cart that way and complete the purchase later using the app. Walmart also integrated its Easy Reorder feature into Google Express allowing for simple repeat purchases.

Marc Lore, CEO of Walmart U.S. eCommerce, says the partnership integrates Walmart's Easy Reorder feature into Google Express.

But can the Walmart/Google blunt Amazon's push into online/offline voice-activated commerce and shopping discovery?

According to AndroidPolice, the company plans to unveil a mini version of the Google Home speaker to compete against Amazon Echo Dot devices.

Beginning in September, Walmart customers will receive an invitation to join Google Express to link their Walmart account to Google.

Walmart, the world's largest retailer, has chose to enter the voice-activated shopping market now dominated by Amazon and its Alexa intelligent assistant, the Los Angeles Times is reporting.

Walmart next year will launch voice shopping for fresh groceries, which customers can pick up from any of its 4,700 stores across the US.

"We know this means being compared side-by-side with other retailers, and we think that's the way it should be", Lore continued.

Not only does Amazon's online food and drink store continues to grow, it's also still attempting to buy out luxury health food chain Whole Foods, which could win the hearts of many more loyal customers.

Over the past few months, Google Express - the company's same-day delivery service - has received a number of updates to drive usage against competitors like Amazon Prime.

Owners of the Google Home will be able to speak orders to their voice-activated Google Assistant (aka "Okay, Google") for delivery or pickup via its local online shopping marketplace Google Express. And it now provides free shipping on all orders over a per-store minimum amount (usually $25 to $35).
