Juncker: UK has failed to do its Brexit homework

The UK isn't taking Brexit very seriously, according to European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker.

Defending the UK's position papers from criticism by Barnier, Davis said they were the product of "hard work and detailed thinking that has been going on behind the scenes" for the a year ago.

Both Barnier and Juncker have been steadfast in their insistence that talks on future trade can not begin until the divorce bill has been settled but the Times reports there may be sympathy for Britain among some member states.

"Negotiations ongoing: (EU leaders) guidelines are designed for serious and constructive negotiations but we need clear United Kingdom positions on all issues", Barnier said in a tweeted message.

Taylor Swift expected to release new music this week
What is clear, however, is that Swift is ready to reclaim and reinvent her image with her upcoming record. Minutes later, Swift dropped what looks to be some artwork for the album, which is titled Reputation .

Mr. Davis said on Monday that this week's talks were all about "driving forward the technical discussions across all the issues". The EU treaties don't provide for the terms of separation merely that the EU and the leaving state will negotiate an exit agreement which has regard to the future relationship. "The voters have voted to leave the European Union, and then not to have a government in a strong position to negotiate the exit".

The UK's Brexit Secretary David Davis insists that the UK's position papers are the product of hard work and "detailed thinking" and is satisfied that progress can be made given "flexibility and imagination".

Brussels sources also poured cold water over the British government's hopes of striking a special customs union with the EU as soon as March 2019, as part of a "bespoke" transitional arrangement. Staying in the single market means accepting the direct jurisdiction of the European court of justice, which the government has promised to quit on Brexit day.

The negotiations are now stuck, in the British view because of commission inflexibility, and in the commission view, because we haven't set out enough detail on vital preliminary matters, including our financial obligations. "So we will probably better take something off the shelf for a limited period, rather than going through the motions and not arriving at anything in September or October next year". They're happy to pay £36 billion, on the proviso that both sides can start on a free trade deal sooner, but that offer falls foul of Brussels' beloved schedule for how these talks should go.
