Ryanair cancelled flights - Michael O'Leary ADMITS 'this is our mess'

Ryanair customers whose flights are being cancelled, will receive an email by this evening informing them, chief executive Michael O'Leary has said.

The company has informed all passengers whose flights have been cancelled, with a total of 56 flights cancelled today, 12 of which are departing from or arriving in Dublin.

Des Manning told KCLR Live they've been busy fielding calls about it and thankfully haven't had any of their customers affected yet. Rory Boland, travel editor at Which? said: "Ryanair cancelling many flights at short notice will cause huge inconvenience and great distress for its passengers".

Some customers said last-minute cancellations have left them out of pocket due to non-refundable accommodation costs, or with no choice but to book expensive alternative flights or transport.

The holiday issue arose from a change from holiday allowance in the company running for a fiscal year to a calendar year.

O'Leary said the budget airline should be able to put 70-85 percent of customers on flights the same day. If you're flying with Ryanair, you can check the status of your flight here.

Barring exceptional circumstances, airlines must under European Union rules provide at least two weeks' notice to avoid paying compensation of 250 euros per passenger for flights of 1,500 km or less or 400 euros for longer flights within the bloc.

Following public pressure, the airline said a full list of all flight cancellations between Thursday September 21 and Tuesday October 31 will be made available on its website tonight.

Passengers affected by the Ryanair's cancellations will be entitled to compensation. It will be refunded on the card you used to pay for the booking.

However he said Ryanair would not book passengers onto flights with rival carriers.
