Suspect captured in killing of University of Utah student, police say

One person was killed in a shooting at the University of Utah where students were told to shelter in place after a report of shots fired near the campus on Monday, police said.

Police have identified Austin Jeffrey Boutain, 24, as a person of interest in both the campus shooting and Ingle's homicide.

CAMPUS ALERT: Secure-in-place lifted for all campus.

Salt Lake City Police Sgt Brandon Shearer said officers were not immediately releasing the victim's gender or other details.

Boutain also has a son who lives in Minnesota.

ChenWei Guo, an global student from China, was shot and killed during an attempted carjacking near Red Butte Canyon on Monday night, according to police.

Suspect in U of U Homicide is Austin Boutain, 24.

Guo, one of thousands of global students at the University of Utah, came to the U.S.in 2012 and dreamed of owning his own consulting company.

Boutain is also wanted for questioning in the death of a 63-year-old man in Golden, Colorado.

Authorities now believe Boutain may be also be connected to a murder in Colorado.

University of Utah President David Pershing sent a letter to the campus community announcing classes would be canceled Tuesday out of respect for Guo, a pre-computer science major. She said Guo loved to dance and wowed his friends on the dance floor in August at a church event for young, unmarried Chinese members of the church.

Kathleen Boutain was jailed in Utah on unrelated drug and theft charges after she reported to police Monday night that her husband had assaulted her while they were camping in the canyon.
