Chip Kelly To Decide Between Florida, UCLA

It's pretty safe to say Jon Gruden won't be the next coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.

While it may seem odd to have an "agreement" while leaving the door open for Kelly to take a job elsewhere, the verbal handshake could have been a way for the two parties to put enough in writing to facilitate finalizing a contract.

According to USA Today, Chip Kelly turned down a recent offer from the University of Tennessee. Florida is a Nike school.

In 2013, after he had joined the Eagles, the NCAA gave Kelly an 18-month show-cause penalty for "failure to monitor" in the Will Lyles case in which OR paid the 7-on-7 coach $25,000 to steer recruits to Oregon. Troy Aikman is doing everything he can to lure Kelly to his alma mater, but the Gators' top brass met with Kelly earlier this week and that reportedly went well.

Per Mark Schlabach of ESPN, the head coach is poised to either take the UCLA Bruins or Florida Gators job in the coming days.

Does Kelly want to get in the rough-and-tumble SEC recruiting wars, despite publicly sayin in 2013 - when he was coach of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles - that he doesn't miss recruiting at all? He also reportedly turned turned down an offer from Tennessee, which fired coach Butch Jones on November 13.

Nebraska is expected to fire Mike Riley after Friday's regular-season finale with Iowa. The Bruins also have a deep-pocketed booster in alumnus Casey Wasserman, a major contributor to the $75-million football practice facility that bears his name and part of the school's coaching search committee. It's a better gig than a college coach.
