Facebook Releases Snooze Button To Mute Your Obnoxious Friends And Family

Facebook has launched a feature to let you temporarily hide annoying friends from your newsfeed.

The new feature is a temporary alternative to the "unfollow" option, which prevents users seeing posts from individuals until otherwise stated.

They present both positive and negative research on social media and write about what Facebook is doing to combat the negatives and prioritize the positives.

"We've heard from people that they want more options to determine what they see in News Feed and when they see it", Shruthi Muraleedharan, Facebook's product manager, wrote in a post. Imagine having a friend whose vacation pictures are giving you serious FOMO, or you just need a break from your insane uncle's MAGA rants (you might be better off unfollowing him entirely, but the choice is now up to you). Just before the quiet period is set to expire, Facebook will send an alert so you can be prepared or renew the Snooze for an additional length of time. If you find yourself snoozing a page, friend, or a group often, it's probably best to just unfriendly or unlike at that point, right? It grants users yet another element of control over their own Facebook experience, and keeps the News Feed - to some extent, at least - in the hands of its readers. The post was entitled, " Hard Questions: Is Spending Time on Social Media Bad for Us? . But Facebook's elimination of the Ticker tool earlier this week anxious some users that the company was trying to restrict this control.

For now, our Facebook here has not been updated with the new feature, but we should expect to see it here very soon, as Facebook has simply said it is rolling the feature out globally today.
