Wife of slain ex-NBA player Lorenzen Wright arrested in Riverside County

Police in Memphis have charged the ex-wife of former National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright with first-degree murder in his 2010 slaying in Tennessee, the Commercial Appeal reported Friday night.

Wright-Robinson has been charged with conspiracy, first-degree murder and criminal attempt first degree murder, Memphis police Director Michael Rallings said in announcing the charges Saturday.

Wright's badly decomposed body was found in a wooded area in Memphis on July 28, 2010, 10 days after he had last been seen. Wright's ex-wife comes up multiple times in the piece and was even interviewed. The seven-year investigation into his death has been one of the Memphis Police Department's most high-profile unsolved cases.

Turner was arrested December 5 and faces the same charges as Wright. Turner, 46, pleaded not guilty.

The indictment alleges the conspiracy by Turner and Sherra Wright began in April of 2010 and that both were at Callis Cutoff and Hacks Cross Road where Lorenzen Wright's body was later found.

Years ago a Memphis newspaper reported that police considered her a person of interest in Wright's murder. "They said Sherra and Billy Turner previously tried to kill Wright". It was published as fiction but has a strong resemblance to her and Lorenzen Wright's real-life story. "The law enforcement should do what's best to find who's the killer". Her spending habits incited a legal battle between Wright-Robinson and her father-in-law over what's left in the estate of the Memphis basketball legend.

Wright-Robinson had divorced the father of her six children months before his murder and was $3 million in debt, according to her own divorce lawyer at the time.

Wright-Robinson also said she was "90 percent done" with a sequel to "Mr. Tell Me Anything". Indeed, Wright-Robinson, who by then had remarried, said "99.99 percent" of the book involves true stories from her life with Wright.

Wright starred at the University of Memphis and was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers as the seventh overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft.
