Well Emmet County is giving people who live there an incentive to recycle theirs.

Port City Daily has compiled a list of local entities that will help residents dispose of used trees.

"You can give it a new life". The county is recycling trees from December 26 through January 28 at four convenience centers and four parks.

At elevations of between 2,500 and 3,000 feet above sea level, North Carolina's Ashe County is the top grower, providing approximately two million trees in 2012, according to the most recent data available. However, Christmas trees can build up sap that can be risky to burn indoors, and creosote that these trees produce isn't good for chimneys or exhausts. The county says there will be signs to direct you to the drop off site.

For trees to be recycled, all ornaments and tinsel must be removed.

Only real trees will be accepted.

Another option to ditch your tree is at Mulchfest with the city parks department.
