Trump aide Stephen Miller's tactical CNN appearance is the new political theater

Jan 08, 2018, 02:05

Even as the White House continues to deny the legitimacy of Michael Wolff's book Fire and Fury, the Trump administration surrogates sent on television are stuck talking about it anyway-and when they try to avoid it, the chaos only expands.

Wolff went so far as to raise the spectre of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, in which a president's cabinet could attempt to remove him from office for being unable to perform his duties, although experts said that amendment was designed with the idea of a president being incapacitated by, for example, a coma. A furious Trump responded by saying Bannon "has lost his mind".

Stephen Miller, senior policy adviser for President Donald Trump, battled with CNN "State of the Union" host Jake Tapper on Sunday during a lengthy discussion on a myriad of topics.

The two battled back and forth interrupting each other and eventually Miller said: "You have 24 hours of negative anti-Trump, hysterical coverage on this network, that led in recent weeks to some spectacularly embarrassing false reporting from your network".

"I'm with him nearly every day", Mr. Pompeo said on "Fox News Sunday".

Wolff defended his work on Friday, insisting he spoke with Trump on the record and called the president "a man who has less credibility than, perhaps, anyone who has ever walked on earth". Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well.

Hillary Clinton Named Most Admired Woman, Again
Oprah Winfrey, who some say is rumored to be considering a run for President, comes in as the third most admired woman this year. Former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump remain the top two figures of "most admired" men.

"It's tragic and unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive and the whole White House staff is deeply disappointed in his comments", Miller said on Sunday. They would say. we're not at 25th Amend level yet.

"Read the book", Wolff added, "and see if you don't feel alarmed". That meeting has been scrutinised by special counsel Robert Mueller III as part of his probe into the Trump campaign's contact with Russian officials during the 2016 election.

The interview turned tense as Miller began repeatedly slamming CNN's political coverage and the media instead of directly answering host Jake Tapper's questions.

The first video shows the conclusion of the interview.

The newsman also got into a tussle with Miller over who hired him, suggesting it was Bannon who helped bring the young aide on board. Congress members summoned an Ivy League psychiatrist to Washington to discuss Mr Trump's mental fitness last month, according to Politico. 'Watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!'

During the contentious interview, Miller offered largely combative responses and focused on presenting Trump as a "political genius," repeatedly refusing to answer questions until Tapper chose to cut him off and move to the next segment.
