UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura told reporters the world body would not give up seeking a full 30-day ceasefire, as mandated by the UN Security Council last Saturday.
There has been no sign of aid delivered to the besieged area.
The preliminary analysis conducted by UNOSAT of satellite imagery from the eastern Ghouta towns of Kafr Batna and Arbeen showed damage in a 62.5-square-kilometre (24-square-mile) area, with buildings completely destroyed or damaged since December 3.
Other than that, nothing has happened except for a brief lull during the day, more specifically between 9 a.m. (0700 GMT) until 2 p.m., since the Russia-proposed humanitarian pause went into force on Tuesday.
It is, however, the more "conventional" weapons that have caused most of the deaths in eastern Ghouta.
The government says the rebels are not abiding by the ceasefire.
U.N. and other aid officials have faced an inability to get humanitarian assistance into the rebel-held region east of Damascus and escort out the critically sick and injured despite a U.N. Security Council resolution passed over the weekend calling for a 30-day cease-fire.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an activist group based in London, the Syrian military actually tried to mount a ground invasion of Eastern Ghouta on February 25, but was repulsed with heavy losses by rebel forces. The agency said a Turkish evacuation helicopter could not land after coming under fire until airstrikes cleared the area.
The people in the capital are still preferring to stay indoors, particularly in the eastern Damascus' neighborhoods close to Eastern Ghouta.
The Syrian government has denied using chemical weapons and Russian Federation, its ally in the war, has questioned United Nations findings that it carried out sarin and chlorine attacks.
Moscow, which says the rebel groups based in eastern Ghouta are terrorists and not covered by the United Nations resolution, said they had stopped people leaving by attacking a safe route out of the enclave.
The rebels have been claiming that the evacuation of civilians is not part of the UN Security Council resolution, demanding the entry of aid to that area instead. Rebel spokesmen said the battle now underway is also a "back and forth" contest, while Syrian commanders insisted the elite "Tiger Force" unit was involved and making progress against the rebels.
But in terms of any breakthrough, "it's highly unlikely", he said.
With no sign of decisive global pressure to stop the attack, eastern Ghouta seems likely to meet the same fate as other areas won back by the government, where humanitarian corridors eventually became escape routes for defeated rebels.
The Syrian government, with Russian backing, agreed to a deal with the United States in 2013 to dismantle all of its chemical weapons after an alleged sarin gas attack that killed as many as 1,400 people in eastern Ghouta.
Without mentioning Russian Federation, the author of the proposal, ICRC Middle East director Robert Mardini said humanitarian corridors had to be well-planned and agreed to by all warring sides, while people should be allowed to leave of their own free will.
