Heisman Winner Cam Newton Skips Senior Year; Opts For NFL Draft Instead

2011 NFL draft got a boost when Auburn University’s Cam Newton stated that he will skip his senior season at University to improve his chances of securing a professional career.

Cam Newton is winner of the Heisman trophy as quarterback for Auburn University. He led his team, the Tigers to a perfect season with 14 wins and zero losses.

The quarterback was also instrumental in helping the Tigers won over Oregon Ducks in the US College Football Championship game.

The team won 22-19. He relayed his decision of skipping senior year for a professional career on the Auburn website.

Talking about his decision, he said that he relied on his head coach Gene Chizik and believed that this was the best time to enter the NFL draft. He spoke of the difficulties involved in taking such a tough decision after his fantastic season for his University.

The quarterback broke many single season records for Auburn last year. He made 20 rushing touchdowns, 30 passing touchdowns, more than 4300 offenses and more than 1400 rushing yards by a quarterback, a record for a single season performance.

His record studded performance combined with his impressive physique are said to be his prime qualification for breaking into the professional league.
