North Korean Shells Fell on South’s Part, Said to Be “Drills”

Korean media reports blasted on Wednesday that North Korea started firing artillery shells in what it was believed to be military drills. As tension hiked in the area, the US military chief in Seoul issued warnings about further provocations.

According to the South Korean military, artillery shells fired by the North Korean military have fallen on its side of the border, off the west coast, in the disputed maritime area. The South further said that the artillery fired by the North was probably part of the North’s military drills and regular exercises.

South Korea has also started conducting military drills in the same area disputed between the two. With tension in the area, after the news blasted about the Northern shells, already-weakened markets fell.

In spite of the situation and worldwide concern about the dispute between the two countries, a military official of the south stated that the fired artillery that fell on Wednesday wasn’t of great concern. “It does not appear to be a matter of great concern,” stated the official.

The tensions between the two Koreas spiked after the North fired two weeks ago at the South. The fired artillery caused serious damage to the island’s infrastructure and killed four people.

Moreover, the powers of the world are more and more concerned after Pyongyang revealed advances in his nuclear program which would give him another option of building an atomic bomb.
